Primary Schools Athletics ChampionshipsThe Primary Schools Athletics Championships were held at Picky on Wed. 28th May.   There were 214 athletes entered from schools all over Orkney. Some children had to leave home at 6.45 to catch their ferry and they didn’t get home until 19.30. Thank goodness we just had to walk across the road at 10 o’clock! There were gold, silver and bronze medals presented to the girls and boys coming first, second and third in each event.   William Sichel, the ultra distance runner from Sanday, gave us a talk about his sport and he made the presentations to the winners at the end. We could enter 3 events – 100m or 800m; shot putt or cricket ball throw; long jump or high jump. We were divided into age groups – 9-10 years or 11-12 years. Glaitness did really well this year.
