International Education
After
successfully achieving the British Council Intermediate International
School Award last session, this year Glaitness School are aiming to
achieve the full award.
During
this year, other classes will also be developing international links
with schools from other countries. You can read further news
about what's happening in international education in Glaitness on our
blog at Glaitness School International Education Blog
We will be building on the work already
developed at the P7 stage through the Exploration and Emigration, and
Arctic Voice topics which looked at the links between Orkney and
Canada. Orkney's link to the Nor' Wast and the Hudson Bay Company was
our starting point for investigating our shared heritage with Canada.
We studied John Rae's explorations in the Arctic and compared his
experiences with the present day journey of the Arctic Voice expedition
team by kayak and dog sled through the North West passage. Our link
with a school in Nunavut allowed us to exchange information about
our locality and culture by post, blog, email, phone and video
conference. To see some of our work from previous years visit Arctic Voice.
