Here are the winners of the BiWater Competition who designed posters on the theme of constuction site safety. Well done to them all! We look forward to seeing everyone back safe and sound after the holidays.

Sports Day

Congratulations to Ayre House who won the House Cup yesterday and to Grain and Corse who were neck and neck all the way to the end. The pupils' enthusiasm for their respective houses was stronger than ever. We were blessed that the weather held for the Sports Day!

Primary 7 Transition Sports Day

Primary 7 pupils from Glaitness, Papdale, Orphir, Flotta, Sanday, Hoy and Westray took part in a day of sports to help us get to know each other before moving up to Kirkwall Grammar School. Fifth year pupils from the Grammar School came to help us learn four sports - rugby, hockey, badminton and volleyball.  We all enjoyed ourselves very much and made lots of new friends.  We were given free hats, toothbrushes and information to take away.

Norwegian Day Parade

This year the Glaitness School Choir as well as pupils from Classes 6, 7 and 12, were invited to take part in the Norwegian Day Celebrations.  After marching through the streets of Kirkwall, the choir sang three Orcadian songs in the Cathedral, and were later congratulated on their "Brilliant" performance.  Click on the following links to view various highlights of the day.

Make a Difference Day 2

As you can see from the photos and video below, a super MADD day was had by all on Wednesday March 25th.  Pupils visited the school gym throughout the day and took part in activities designed to raise awareness of environmental issues.   Pupils and staff were also encouraged to make and wear a waistcoat made out of recyclable material.  Many thanks to Inga Falconer for all the planning and organisation that made it such a successful day.

First Newsreel

The Primary 7 pupils have put together their first video newsre el under the banner of TV Glaitness.  The aim of the project is to produce a news bulletin every month in order for parents to view the latest school news about events that have taken place as well as forthcoming activities - (a video version of the newsletter).

Although the finished product is important, the process involved requires a whole variety of different skills as well as the need to work as a team.  The class is divided into reporters, script editors, presenters, interviewers, cameramen, technicians and movie editors, according to their interests and skills.  You can see the latest newscast by clicking on the following link -
